The National Coordinator,NAGAFF !00% Compliance Team Vice President, Alhaji  Ibrahim Tanko, has assured that with the emergence of the Team, the Maritime Industry will be reformed.

Tanko who is also the Vice President, Western Zone of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), stated this in an exclusive interview with Timenewsreporter in Lagos noted that total compliance to Trade rules will restore sanity in the Maritime Sector.

He stressed that all stakeholders must  comply with the government’s directive to Trade as given to the agencies operating at the ports., pointing out that  compliance

“If you look at every organisation at the Port; the shipping companies, Customs and all others they have a mandate from the government. What is the government’s directive? Are they doing the right thing? Do the government’s directive; we have been having a lot of issues in the Port and the Port is collapsing because of lack of compliance to Trade rules. So, that was how we came up with the name ‘100 per cent Compliance’ to ensure everyone complies with the government’s directive. Before we were using Taskforce but the name did not sound well to our intention so we decided to use Compliance,” he stated.

Continuing, the National Coordinator said Compliance is for everybody; not only the freight forwarders but all the government agencies that operate at the Port; the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and others.
“For NAGAFF it is not only to enforce compliance on other freight forwarders and government agencies but even NAGAFF members themselves.

“We are out to reform NAGAFF, Tanko said that they are out to train and update the members to operate with set Trade standards and rules.
“We have a system that after manual registering we now key in the information electronically in such a way that you can easily search for members’ names and branches including address and other details. So, we’re trying to reform NAGAFF, even internally here we are changing things.”

“The duty of the Compliance Team is more of observation and that is why training is mandatory.  When the members see someone doing the wrong thing at the Port they are not to fight but they are there to correct and if anyone does not take to correction, they come back and report to me. “Then we will have witness and evidence to invite the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to pick up the person. Compliance Team is a moving train”, he opined.

He announced a four- day seminar which would be organised soon for the Compliance Team Members before they commence their work at the Ports while awaiting the main training programme., adding that a bus would be donated to each NAGAFF chapter in the next two months in order to facilitate their activities in the Industry.

Alhaji Tanko however urged all the agencies at the Port and all other stakeholders to join force with  the Compliance Team in  order to salvage the Industry.saying
