As the entire world makes effort to curb the Coronavirus (COVID-19)
pandemic to the barest minimum, the International Transport Workers
Federation (ITF) based in London in collaboration with the Maritime
Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) recently organised a programme on
sensitisation and distribution of palliatives to major ports in the
The Deputy Secretary General of MWUN, Comrade Oniha Odigie, who
disclosed this in a chat with ‘TimeNews’ said the items distributed
included Preventive Palliatives (PPE),sanitisers, infra-red
thermometers and nose masks to all the seafarers so that they can keep
safe on board ship.
The Team according to him visited four ports; Lagos, Calabar, Port
Harcourt, Onne and Warri and made contact with 78 or more vessels. “In
all the visits we had contact with 78 or more vessels with full
complements of seafarers on board,” he said.
He commended the International Transport Workers Federation Seafarers
Trust Fund (ITFSTF) for the kind gesture. “The Nigerian seafarers want
to seize the opportunity to thank the (ITFSTF),” Odigie said.
