NAGAFF: 100% Compliance Team Visits Ikorodu Lighter Terminal…Tanko Flays at Cargo Transfer Charges by Shipping Lines

The National Coordinator,  Nagaff 100% Compliance Team,  Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko has expressed displeasure over the increase in handling charges by SAPID bonded Terminal at Ikorodu Government Warehouse.

Alhaji Tanko who stated this while fielding questions from Journalists shortly after his visit to some government agencies and bonded terminal at the Government Warehouse(Ikorodu Lighter Terminal),  Ikorodu in  continuation of the Team’s nationwide tour,  described the situation as a serious challenge facing the freight forwarders there,  as the cost was becoming unbearable.
He argued that the Warehouse which was formerly ,  Ikorodu Lighter terminal is now government terminal and not  private terminal,  stressing that, ” for this reason, they are not suppose to be collecting money.”
The 100% Compliance Team Coordinator who doubles as the Vice President, Seaports,  Western Zone of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders(NAGAFF) also condemned the transfer charges for moving Cargo from the original chosen terminal by the Importer to another terminal without the consent and approval of the importers, arguing that importer has the right to decide where his containers should be off-loaded.
Tanko described the transfer fees and action of shipping Lines as illegal and unacceptable to them,  while commending the Nigerian Customs Service, the Nigerian Police,  NPA for not only accepting the 10 point agenda of the Compliance team,  but also promising to work with them to achieve seamless operations at the terminal.
“If you look at the agenda,  we are assisting them. Well like I said,  anything you are doing,  there must be saboteurs within us or with government agencies. But I think here,  they received us well and they promised to work with us,”  he added.

Speaking earlier,  D.C Kidda Hussien,  Government Warehouse keeper,  Nigerian Customs Service,  Ikorodu Terminal, commended the bold step taken by the Compliance team ably led by Alhaji Tanko and assured to convey their message to his officers concerning the 100% Compliance team agenda
According to him, ” this thing we are doing,  we are helping ourselves. We cannot just sit down and be blaming Mr. President. What have you done as an individual or as a Nigerian to assist government.”
“At least with this thing you are doing,  you are assisting the government. By the time you achieve 100% compliance,  there will be seamless way of delivery of cargo. We really appreciate your effort at what you are doing. I will deliver your message to the zonal comptroller who I report directly to.”
Adding there voices, the  DPO Nigeria Port Police Command,  Ikorodu Port Terminal Operation,  Ikorodu Lighter Terminal,  CPS Enoch Aregbesola,  Lekan Odesina,  Senior Manager,  Traffic, Ikorodu Terminal,  Nigerian Ports Authority,  all described NAGAFF members at Ikorodu Lighter Terminal as their friends,  while commending their efforts at ensuring total compliance of freight forwarders to trade rules,  which according to them would ease their jobs.

They noted that they have good working relationship with NAAFF members and assured to explain their mission to their bosses as well as assisting them in anyway they could.
At SAPID,  the marketing officer who stood in for the manager of the Terminal,  Ifeoma Offor promised to relay their(Compliance Team) message of trying to do the right thing, to her boss too.
The National Coordinator of the team,  Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko who had on arrival had an indoor meeting with the Executive members of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders(NAGAFF),  Ikorodu Chapter where he resolved their differences.
