In a bid to have synergy with markets in Lagos and for further economic development of the State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has inaugurated a 21-Man Market Advisory Council headed by Chief Mrs Folashade Tinubu Ojo The Council among others is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the affairs of 414(Four hundred and fourteen) markets in Lagos State.
Performing the ceremony in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the Market Advisory Council to do all that was required within
the ambit of the law to effectively manage and control the markets in line with international best practices. He remarked that the members were carefully selected
base on merit and hoped they perform optimally in realising his dreams at ensuring the economic growth of the State “Our markets remain a key driver for economic growth in Lagos State and it is our duty to ensure that we institute a template that is flexible and profitable enough for the economic growth that Lagos will witness in the years ahead,” he stated.
“In carrying out your duties, you must consult widely in order to harmonize the
interests of all stakeholders. “In accordance with making Lagos a 21st century economy, which is one of the pillars of our administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, I implore you to use your new office to seamlessly engage traders, our market men and women and all relevant stakeholders in order to acquaint them with the policies of this administration,”

Speaking with Time News Reporters Correspondent in Lagos, the Secretary General of Ndigboamaka Progressive Traders Associations, Comrade Chinedu Ukatu commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu for appointing him as a member of the Lagos State Market Advisory Council, adding that the creation of the Council was a right step in the right direction.
Comrade Ukatu who described his appointment as a link between his organisation, Igboamaka, an umbrella body of 58 major International markets, and the government, pledged to ensure good communication, greater synergy and harmony between the State Government and marketers.
“This is the first time I am seeing this kind of thing. It has never been done and if it’s like that, that we are being carried along, I don’t think there will be much problem
“I am not going to sleep. I am going to work round the clock because to whom much is given, much is expected from him. I am going to work round the clock to make sure that whatever is the intention of His Excellency will be achieved for the good of the Government and Traders,” he concluded.
.”If there’s anything that would bring a set back, they will come to me and complain. I will then go to the Governor to tell him that these are the challenges they are facing, and we will iron it out,” he said.
Comrade Ukatu however solicited for the support of the members of the association to the actualisation of their mandate, while urging them to bring up any issue that may threaten their business activities in the state.
