The  National Coordinator 100% Compliance Team of the  National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Alhaji  Ibrahim Tanko has frowned at the call for the removal  of the MInister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed and Deputy Comptroller General of Customs Tariff & Trade(T&T) , Hajia Talatu  from office.
The National Vice President of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Dr Kayode Farinto who is also the MD Wealthy Honey Nigeria Limited, had in an interview with an online media, called for their removal, as well as spoke against issuance of DN on already cleared cargo, multiple alerts, multiple cargo variations among others by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Alhaji while addressing Journalists  in Apapa, said the call for their removal is baseless as they are just carrying out their responsibilities, stressing that the emphasis should be on freight Forwarders  making honest declarations and subjecting  their cargo to 100 percent examination..
Alhaji Tanko (Middle) with his Chief of Staff, Fwdr.Okeke  at Compliance Secretariat.
According to him, “Few days ago, I watched an interview of the Vice President, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Dr. Kayode Farinto. As a freight forwarder, is that what you  are supposed to say? You are complaining of alert, 25% variation,, calling for the removal of DCG T&T and Finance Minister.  I didn’t see any reason for that, rather, we should do the right thing. If we do the right thing, there won’t be any need for variations and Demand Notice(DN).”
He stressed further, “in any organisation, there’s always a law that guides their operations. There is a law that is guiding Customs. If you do the wrong thing intentionally, you should pay the penalty. If you make a false declaration and an alert is raised, you should face the consequences. If Customs is to do the real thing, so many containers will not be cleared.
”Secondly, on the issue of DCG T&T, the woman is carrying out her duty to make sure things are done properly and accordingly. The DCG even said that any Evaluation officer who wrote DN and cannot defend it should be reported to her.  If they write DN and you have your doubts,, you should write a protest letter to the CAC. The CAC will ask them to go and re-examine the cargo.
“Calling for the sack of MInister of Finance, do you know the procedure for appointing her. We shouldn’t take things personal. If you have an issue with somebody, don’t attach it to the office of that person. I am not defending anybody, but I am telling the truth.  We should not attach problem or personal interest to the office of that person
“We spent almost One year and three months campaigning to our members to do the right thing. I know what I am going through. To tell somebody to do the right thing is a problem. Our stand here is, we , members of the Compliance Team, there’s no going back on doing the right thing,”Tanko concludes.
