Seaport Immigration Boss urges Personnel to be Proessional, Transparent in their Conduct

As part of activities marking the 2022 NIS Customer Service Week, the Lagos Seaports/Marine Command of Nigeria Immigration Service has commenced a weeklong sensitisation of the public on its commitment to a healthy service delivery environment. The Customer Service week, which has as its theme, “Excellent Service Delivery-A panacea for Corruption”, was flagged off on Monday, 14th February, 2022 by the Acting Comptroller-General of Immigration, Isah Jere Idris at the Service Headquarters, Abuja.
Among other highlights, the Command is engaging critical stakeholders, particularly vessel crews and agents of shipping companies with a view to interrogating the conduct of Immigration personnel during boarding and  clearance procedures. To this end, handbills, questionnaires and other sensitisation materials are being distributed to the targeted segment of the public.
A Release by the Public Relations Officer,Lagos Deaport Command, DSI Augustus Maisor said the Comptroller of Immigration, Lagos Seaports/Marine Command, CIS AS Garo, during the week, reminded officers and men of their statutory role as “Gatekeepers”, and warned against conducts that are capable of undermining the image and security of the country.
The Comptroller who gave the warning while addressing personnel from various units at the Command Headquarters, Apapa. While reiterating the Acting Comptroller-General’s stance on anti-corruption, charged personnel to be professional and transparent in the discharge of their duties.ss
According to him, ” We are here at the port because we have a responsibility to serve others and to ensure that our country is secure. For us to successfully execute our statutory mandate, we need the understanding of other stakeholders in the port environment. You owe it a duty, therefore, to make them understand your role”.s
The Comptroller further hinted that the Command was working hand-in-glove with the Port Standing Task Team to ensure successful implementation of the Nigerian Port Process Manual.
