The Founder of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders(NAGAFF), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam has accused the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the Registrar of Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria(CRFFN) of manipulating the forthcoming CRFFN Governing Council elections.
The ministry, he adduced refused to adopt the agreed process of candidates emergence from the five freight forwarding associations as recognised by CRFFN Act and endorsed private candidates which is not provided for nor supported by the Act.
Dr. Aniebonam who made the accusation during a Press briefing in Apapa, Lagos re-stated emphatically that CRFFN is not Government parastatal under the ministry of Transportation as the case is still pending at the Appeal Court.
He raised an alarm over the ongoing registration of the unknown freight forwarders by the Council for the purpose of election and called on the five freight forwarding associations to boycott the elections if need be .
“The transportation ministry had been eager to take over CRFFN most likely because of the inherent financial aspect of it, probably the Port Operation Fees otherwise what is their business.
“Transportation ministry has not finished with NPA, Shippers’Council, NIMASA, Inland Waterways, you have not finished with that. Must you acquire CRFFN?
“I expect the registered freight forwarding Associations to protest to National Assembly, draw the attention of their attention to this kind of breaches against this Act because that is not the essence of promulgation of that law. That s set out to empower , to improve upon, to develop freight forwarding profession in Nigeria and it is as we are going anywhere.
According to him, “I expect Tony Iju and Tochukwu Ezisi to provide leadership. Laws are made for man not man for Law. What is happening at the port now is as a result of CRFFN inadequacies. If CRFFN is working well, this withdrawal of service will not go on.”
